Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools were applied by an FYDP project supervised by Prof. Zhang to study the aerodynamics of a generic LMP racing car model. The CFD support was provided by AAF's engineer to train and advise the students on their CFD activities.
PIV is an effective non-intrusive flow measurement technique used in wind tunnel testing. AAF recently performed some PIV to enlighten students on the complex fluid structures formed behind a circular cylinder in the large low-speed wind tunnel.
This demonstration illustrates how a laser sheet may be used to visualize a section of the flow field, revealing complex fluid structures formed behind a bluff body.
