The Aerodynamics Acoustics and Noise Control Technology Centre (AANTC) use the wind tunnel facility at the AAF for their research on performance sports engineering.
Their research focuses on the research and development of aerodynamics measurement and modeling technologies towards enhancing competitive cycling performance of elite athletes.
Between 2000 and 2017 the facility, previously named the CLP Power Wind/Wave Tunnel Facility, performances various types of wind tunnel experiments. Most of the experiments focused on civil engineering and the environment and many of the models tested in the facility were of iconic buildings scattered across Hong Kong. The facility also performed full-scale testing of wind-induced structural response monitoring.
In 2014 a remodeling task-force was set up to broaden the facility's research and application scope, and to enhance its technical capabilities. Through these efforts, a brand new and state-of-the-art wind tunnel was developed.
