Description

HKUST possesses a large multi-purpose low speed wind tunnel, an anechoic chamber, a reverberation chamber, and other smaller flow and fluid-acoustic facilities, serving the wide research communities locally and beyond. The Facility is looking for a high caliber candidate to fill the position of Engineer. Reporting to the Director of AAF, the appointee will be required to serve as aerodynamics and acoustics expert for the AAF to:

  • Lead the planning and execution of aerodynamic and acoustic tests to achieve high-quality datasets in an efficient manner and verify and validate datasets, monitor progress, and troubleshoot; Oversee model fabrication and model instrumentation by AAF staff and/or subcontractors to ensure high quality build;
  • Develop analysis tools, perform mathematical modelling, and provide design support on projects related to sports engineering, aerodynamic testing, civil engineering, and automotive engineering;
  • Perform numerical simulations that may go alongside experimental test procedures;
  • Procure equipment necessary to support testing capabilities or enhance laboratory quality;
  • Identify potential improvements in test procedures to streamline test operations; and
  • Support technical output of the Facility through technical communications (publications, presentations, etc.).

The appointee will also serve as primary customer interface to:

  • Troubleshoot and provide technical support with data acquisition, signal processing, database organization and management;
  • Liaise with AAF clients and manage customer relations; and
  • Provide preliminary analysis data by means of numerical simulations (e.g. CFD and CAA).

The appointee may be required to work overtime.

 

Requirements

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of experience or a higher degree with 6 years of experience. Experience in aerodynamic and acoustic testing and operational principles, academic and industry-sponsored projects and proven record of prior project experience related to aerodynamics and acoustics (computational work may also be included) are required. Experience in facility design will be an advantage.

The ideal candidate should also have experience in application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with ability to organize, plan, schedule, and coordinate workloads to meet deadlines and milestones with experience in project leadership; aerodynamic and acoustic measurement techniques, data acquisition, signal conditioning and model instrumentation; MATLAB, MS Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), and excellent technical writing skills. Experience in LabVIEW and National Instrument system; management of resources (e.g., client and scheduling) in developing project proposals is desirable. (Duration: 2 years, renewable)
